Juicing is core activity during stormy days

This year's apple juicing has taken place at Orchid Meadows. While storms Austen and Boelo raged outside, it was hands-on indoors, turning varieties from Bramley to Brownlee's Russet to bottle after bottle of delicious drink, which was then pasteurised and laid down for the winter. This picture shows volunteers Ross and Alison operating the press. Many jars of crab apple jelly were made too.

There are plenty of apples left over, however. Guests in Tawny Little House can help themselves to Bramley cookers and Ashmead Kernel eaters during stays over the coming few months.
