Good Life Tasters offer introduction to life on the land

Curious about life on a small-holding? Considering a ‘Tom and Barbara’ move to the good life? See what it’s all about with a Good Life Taster stay at Orchid Meadows.

Orchid Meadows near Tregaron encompasses 25 acres and we keep hens, grow much of our own fruit and vegetables and produce our own firewood, while managing the land for nature. This is alongside growing hay for a nearby horse-training school.

Residential and day-visit introductions to living and working on the land are on offer, running throughout the autumn and winter. During the Good Life Tasters, topics explored include self-sufficiency, conservation work, wildlife protection, meadow management, no-dig vegetable production, apple tree pruning, woodland management, firewood production, hen-care and more.

And you gain practical skills by helping out with a hands-on task. Tasks available include hawthorn jelly making, apple juicing, living willow sculpture, tree pollarding with woodland management, and devil’s bit scabious turf-seeding for a marsh fritillary butterfly reintroduction programme.

The first day of your stay begins with a detailed guided discovery tour of Orchid Meadows. After a shared vegetarian lunch, a small-holding task is undertaken at a relaxed pace and with full instruction. The next day the task is completed followed by the chance to revisit any parts of the small-holding operation you may be particularly interested in.
