Goldfinches bring charm to the fields

A lot of work has been done on the connection between nature and well-being. We now have a small section on our website about it – you can read it here: https://www.orchidmeadows.co.uk/improve-well-being We are very lucky here at Orchid Meadows to be able to step out into nature at any time. And today we both commented on the same thing. In our Home Meadow at lunchtime around 100 goldfinches had gathered to chatter and feed together. Apparently, they do this from this time of year onwards and a gathering of the birds has the collective noun of a charm of goldfinches.
It’s a word well-chosen because the spectacle raised our spirits. By this afternoon, the number had risen to maybe 200 or so birds, all homing on our currently unmown meadows with their feast of knapweed seeds and, very appropriately, swirling around our Goldfinch Glampavan. It was a joy to see and a reminder that nature can help you feel better.
We’d love you to come to Orchid Meadows, of course, but this isn’t a sales pitch. If you feel not at your best, get out into nature wherever you might be and you’ll start to heal.
Have a great, happy Bank Holiday weekend!
