Red Kite Yurt

Red Kite Yurt is a traditional Mongolian-style yurt made by Avalon Yurts at Glastonbury and furnished and decorated in the colours of this iconic bird of prey. Sited on its own in Home Meadow, it has a magnificent king-size sleigh bed and log-burner inside and a field kitchen with seating outside. Sleeping two adults and up to two children (age range 5-12), it is available from April to October for short breaks or longer holidays and prices start at just £45 a night. Sadly, because we have free-roaming hens (Jackie, Sara, Sara, Sara and Sara, plus Monty the cockerel) and very free-roaming cats (Bobby, Rosalyn and Sandy), we unfortunately cannot take dogs.

"When we were shown our yurt in its own private field, we were simply blown away. The views are breathtaking as well as the rest of the property which they have opened up for us all to experience. I lost count of how many times I walked around their amazing paradise looking at nature, lily ponds, highland cattle, cheeky chickens and stunning views.
As for the yurt and its facilities, it is extremely homely with everything you could ever need. Lovely big bed, woodburner and comfy sofa." Gareth and Charlotte

Lovely addition was the fresh produce list that we could request items from, and the mini tuck shop full of goodies.

"We had such an amazing stay at Red Kite Yurt at the end of October. The yurt is set in a beautiful meadow which is so peaceful and relaxing. The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need, want and more! Inside, the yurt is furnished to a very high standard, the bed is super comfy, there is a sofa for you to sit and chill out on, there are books available, board games, cards and even a guitar with a beginners guide on how to play! Honestly you will not be disappointed staying here. We didn’t want to leave." Laurie and Neil

"Beautiful stay with my partner. Just what we needed – space to ourselves in a big field. The hosts had thought of everything. The yurt was clean and comfy and it was very lovely falling asleep with the cosy log burner. The wash facilities and kitchen were very clean and tidy. The free supply of eggs and other produce with a mini-shop was brilliant. We couldn’t fault this stay and would definitely return." Becky and Sam

"Just returned from this magical place for the third time. We didn't think it was possible to improve upon perfection but Steve and Lynn have done it again! New additions of hammocks around the lily pond coupled with a lovely little pond village made of willow complete with small mushroom seats. The place is magical with nature galore, superb hosts, fresh produce, including eggs from the chickens, all of which is complimentary. We stayed in red kite yurt (which really lives up to its name as there is always one flying overhead) for five nights and had everything we would ever need. Very comfortable bed, beanbag seat, extremely cosy sofa, woodburner, even solar lights to guide you to the bathroom in the dark. Steve and Lynn are fantastic hosts and always willing to have a chat with you, not to mention Lynn’s cakes, which are to die for. I could go on and on but all I can say is, just book to stay and go... You absolutely will not regret it. If we were closer, we would be booking every month and we really mean that." Charlotte

"We had an absolutely serene time during our stay at Stephen and Lynn's, who were great hosts and Lynn's welcome cakes were delicious we thoroughly enjoyed them as a family. We were surrounded by vast nature and woke up to the sound of birds and were kite spotting most of the day. There is so much to explore right on the doorstep and although we planned to visit nearby Aberystwyth, we decided to spend the days roaming the nature reserve instead and even took home-made complimentary lettuce and herbs." Shabana and family

"What a wonderful place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful and everywhere was clean and tidy. I stayed in the yurt which was extremely comfortable and well equipped. So many footpaths to walk and plenty of flora and fauna to see and listen to. It was my kind of ideal break and I can highly recommend a stay at Orchid Meadows." Malcolm

"We absolutely fell in love with Orchid Meadows. Lynn and Steve were fantastic hosts, they gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. Orchid Meadows itself feels like an escape from the world, with a trail through the Orchids, surrounded by wildlife and sleeping beneath the stars in the yurt. We did not want to leave and we would love to come and visit again. Thank you!" Emily and Kier

"Diolch yn fawr! Thank you for the perfect weekend. We loved the yurt and the wildlife trail. We will definitely come back!" Leia and Dylan

"Our stay in Red Kite Yurt was, in a word, magical. It was so peaceful in Orchid Meadows. The yurt was so homely and the outdoor kitchen was perfect. Lynn and Steve were incredibly accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We cannot wait to book again soon!" Jenny and Dave

"A short break for my mum and I who needed some R&R. Red Kite Yurt provided just that. Lovely hosts, beautiful scenery, superb bed linen and fantastic natural products provided. The Yurt had plenty of tea lights and battery operated bedside lamps along with a host of solar powered lights not just inside the yurt but lighting your way to the bathroom facilities. Did not miss not having electricity at all. Steve and Lynn lent us power packs for our phones and replenished icepacks as required. Amazing place!" Jess with Jan

"We had the best weekend break. On arrival Steve and Lynn were both very welcoming. Showed us around and had made beautiful cakes for our arrival. What a wonderful couple and wonderful location. Would definitely come back." Kirsty and Leigh

"Stephen and his wife made us feel right at home in the luxury yurt we rented for 3 nights. The welcome was fantastic with home made cakes, including lemon drizzle, cupcakes and fruit cake - what more could you ask for! The site is unbelievably peaceful and quiet with only the rustling of the leaves in the trees at night to listen to, we slept so well in the king size bed. The outdoor kitchen was perfect, clean and well stocked with all the necessary utensils. We spent our evenings (weather allowing) sat in the wooden arm chairs, next to a fire pit with wood provided by Stephen from their small holding. We always felt like we had so much space. The private bathroom has a hot, powerful shower and super clean toilet. The yurt was beautifully decorated and spacious and was warm even though it wasn't outside. Stephen and his wife were perfect hosts, answering all our questions, even providing home grown veg. We'll definitely return and walk the nature trail again. An amazing few days. Thank you." Matt and Fay

"We loved staying in the yurt, it was peaceful and private. It was so quiet at night for a great sleep. The yurt is so cosy and well thought out. The bathroom facilities are incredible, plenty of hot water even though essentially you are (almost) outside. The nature trail is lovely to wander round with great descriptions and a little map. We enjoyed cooking using a pizza oven and in the camp kitchen and sitting by the fire pit. The log burner was cosy for a chilly evening. If you want peace and quiet in comfortable surroundings, I highly recommend this. Steve and Lynn were very welcoming but also left you in peace unless you needed them. We enjoyed the complementary cakes and the friendly cats!" Kathryn and Aidan

"Thank you so much Steve and Lynn. Your Red Kite Yurt is wonderful. It exceeded my expectation, and my 9 year old son described it as a magical place. I couldn’t put it better. Thanks for helping me make memories with my boy." Ade

"It was our first time staying in a yurt. It was an amazing experience. Lynn made us the most delicious cakes on arrival and we enjoyed a lovely stroll around the nature trail.
