Orchid Fortnight approaches

The ideal time to immerse yourself in our orchids is approaching… Orchid Fortnight runs from Saturday 28 June to Sunday 13 July. On display will be hundreds (last year we counted 2270) of flowering heads of heath spotted orchid, Dactylorhiza maculata subspecies ericetorum. These plants cope well with the heavy, damp, acid soils common in West Wales. Populations take a long time to establish and can be reduced or lost altogether by modern farming methods relying on chemicals but the meadows here have, over the past four years, been returned to nature-friendly management.

As well as heath spotted orchids, smaller numbers of lesser butterfly orchid and broad-leaved helleborine are expected to be seen.

We have plenty of availability in Tawny Little House, although nothing in Red Kite Yurt and Goldfinch Glampavan. All stays during Orchid Fortnight include a complimentary wild flower guided walk!

We look forward to seeing you!

Happy summer!

Steve and Lynn
