This year’s Big Orchid Count at Orchid Meadows nature reserve and glamping site near Tregaron in West Wales takes place on Saturday 27 June. We will be counting mainly heath-spotted orchids – last year 1981 flowering heads were recorded. Also on-site are lesser butterfly orchids and broad-leaved helleborines.
The annual count provides valuable information on how effective our nature-friendly meadow management is turning out to be.
Come to stay in Red Kite Yurt, Goldfinch Glampavan or Tawny Little House and help out with the count in the morning and enjoy a complimentary ‘harvest lunch’ afterwards. The rest of the time is your own! Orchid Meadows is a 25-acre retreat with woodland and wetland as well as flower-rich meadows. Guests can explore the nature trail, open a window on wildlife in the birdhide and relax in hammocks in the Green Man living willow village.
Book accommodation at www.orchidmeadows.co.uk and contact Steve and Lynn at hello@orchidmeadows.co.uk with details of any dietary requirements.
