Nature is all around

Around Orchid Meadows glamping site and nature reserve near Tregaron in West Wales, there have been a number of dramatic spring wildlife sightings over the past few days. At Aberystwyth, a porbeagle shark swimming just off the beach has been creating a stir; on Cors Caron National Nature Reserve almost next door to Orchid Meadows, green hairstreak butterflies are on the wing and a marsh harrier has been spotted hunting; goshawks have been seen within the conifer plantations on the nearby mountains, also home to red squirrels and pine martens; and near New Quay, pearl bordered fritillaries are brightening up the coast path.

Here at Orchid Meadows the swallows have arrived and the cuckoo is an almost constant companion. Bluebells, bogbean, marsh marigold, lady’s smock and primroses are all out and the trees are the fresh, bright green you only really see in May. Red kites and buzzards patrol high in the sky.

It’s a wonderful time to visit West Wales and Orchid Meadows glamping site opens fully for the summer on Thursday 8 May. You can stay in Tawny Cottage, Red Kite Yurt or Goldfinch Glampavan and have a truly back-to-nature experience.
